Protect Your Peace
21st Jul 2026
It can sometimes feel as though the world is full of bad news. Whether it's conflict, rising living costs, political uncertainty or worrying headlines, we're exposed to more negative information than ever before. With news and social media available 24 hours a day, it's easy to become emotionally exhausted.
Stop a moment! You don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. You can care about what’s happening while also protecting your own mental and emotional wellbeing. Here are three simple ways to help you feel calmer and more positive.
1. Step Away from the Noise
Staying informed is one thing, but frequent scrolling through upsetting stories can stress your nervous system.
Take regular breaks from the news and social media. Instead, spend time doing something that restores your energy, such as reading a book, listening to music, gardening or walking in nature.
The world will still be there when you return, but you'll be in a much better place to deal with it.
2. Focus on What You Can Control
Spending hours worrying about things you cannot change can leave you feeling powerless.
Instead, ask yourself "What can I do today that will make a positive difference?"
Perhaps it's looking after your health, helping a friend, supporting a local charity or simply being patient and kind with those around you. Small acts of kindness create ripples that spread much further than we realise.
3. Look for the Good
The news often highlights the worst of humanity and rarely reports the everyday goodness happening around us.
Take a few moments each day to notice something positive - a beautiful sunset, birds singing, a welcome cup of tea, laughter with family, a stranger holding open a door, and much more.
Simple moments like this remind us that goodness still exists and helps to bring balance to our thoughts.
Protect your peace
It doesn’t help the world to live in a constant state of worry. It needs people who are calm, compassionate and able to bring hope to others.
So focus on what you can control and notice the good that surrounds you each day.
When you nurture your own wellbeing, you become a source of calm for everyone around you, and this what our world needs more than ever.
