What we do on a daily basis defines our health and wellbeing. Something we do every day is eat, and many of us don't give much thought to it. Food is more than just a filler to stop us feeling hungry. It's an important and effective source of healing. The nutrients in our food issue instructions on how to function, to every one of the trillions of cells that make up our body. Depending on these nutrients or lack of them, we can heal or damage our body.
Both our body and our mind are impacted by what we eat. For instance, a small dose of the stimulants in coffee can give us a boost of energy and clear thinking, but overdoing the coffee can also give us a massive drop in energy and mood, and a boost of cortisol and adrenaline hormones that, over time, can create stress, anxiety and insomnia.
Whatever your personal nutrition needs or wishes, the key is a balanced diet with the best nutrients available, and good eating habits.
As we approach the festive season, we will be indulging in all sorts of foods which we may not usually eat, and we may over-eat them. We all need food fun on special occasions, but as long as our daily food basics are nutrient-rich, and we chew well, and take time over our eating, we can emerge into the new year with stable weight, loads of energy and a strong sense of wellbeing.
