Colours in Feng Shuiwater, wood, fire, earth, metal
The five elements Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal are the primary elements of existence. They make up everything that exists, from a rock to a leaf to a person. The concept of the five elements came into being through the Ancients' study of nature. They timed the ebb and flow of nature, watched how it behaved and assessed the quality of nature's different energies and how they interacted to create a particular outcome. They applied their knowledge to health and well-being and to their homes and land. The five elements form the foundation of many traditional healing and balancing disciplines, such as feng shui, acupuncture, reflexology, shiatsu, Chinese traditional medicine, aromatherapy, ayurveda, sound therapy, yoga, qigong, tai chi and many more. Feng Shui is about creating a balanced flow of energy in your surroundings. You are a reflection of the type of energy flowing around you, because you absorb this energy. Balance in your personal surroundings brings balance into your body and life. With balance come optimum conditions for healing to begin, whether in your health, relationships, career, opportunities or any other life area. Each element is associated with a colour, a life area, and a compass sector, and it also supports the next element in its cycle. The placement of the right colours in each compass sector means creating balance in the space and in that life area. Balance = Healing. Each sector also has a number, which is one of the numbers of the lo shu. The number is significant and enhances the energy of the life area to which it belongs. Claire will sometimes paint pairs for SouthWest (Nº.2), a set of three for East (Nº.3), and of course, Nº.1 belongs to North. These will be indicated with the paintings.
The Creative Cycle of the Five ElementsWater produces Wood In the creative or productive cycle, each element gives birth to the next element. In other words, it creates, produces, enhances, supports or gives strength to the next element. So, when selecting a painting for a particular room, you can use the correct colour for the compass sector of that room and/or the supporting colour. This is all explained below.
